On the eve of Chinese New Year, we headed downtown to the marina to take in the River Hongbao festivities. It was actually the perfect time to go! New Year's Eve is a very special time for Chinese families who all get together for their reunion dinner. Children sometimes travel home from abroad to be together on this important evening. That meant that there were not too many people at the River Hongbao! This is a Singapore tradition that has been going for almost 30 years. It's a big festival on the floating platform on the marina. They have big lantern displays for all of the zodiac animals. They had a wonderful display on the history of Chinese New Year in Singapore that was really interesting to learn about. They have a wonderful food street with all of the old, local favorites. And, they have a carnival with seriously overpriced rides! It was a beautiful evening there, and we loved it all!

Our friend had told us that the carnival rides were quite expensive and that there were lots of treats around. She said that she tells her kids they can choose one treat and one ride - great tip! That's exactly what we did!

The boys chose bumper cars as their ride. They thought it was pretty much the coolest thing EVER!
