August began with Vacation Bible School for Lewis. I volunteered a couple of the days, so Beau got to go and play at the child care as well. It was a great week! Darling kids, fun games, wonderful teachers, great messages, catchy music - the kids were sold!
After that week, we snuck in another week of swim lessons and a few afternoon trips to the pool. Lewis had gone swimming in Annapolis, and he had a bit of a breakthrough with getting his face wet - previously not a desirable thing. So, by this week of swim lessons, he was asking to jump in all the way and tried retrieving his starburst from the lowest step. We were proud of him! Beau, on the other hand, has never had a problem getting his face wet! We also discovered that even when the pool is freezing cold, he doesn't mind staying in shivering. Cutie-pie!
We tried to get a few things done on the house across the month. Mike hired a few young men and repainted our sorry looking garage - quite the undertaking, and a great difference.
We had a lovely day at the temple in New York. Mike and I each enjoyed our temple time, and the kids absolutely loved the splash playground in Central Park. Heaven for them!
Mike went through a pretty awesome gel phase this month. Totally slicked - no movement. I fear it may be my influence that has caused him to give this up, but it was pretty amazing while it lasted. Here are some funny but precious pictures of him holding his little Daddy's boy one morning when Beau was having a hard time.

And, here's Lewis having some little drama of his own. He was simply too tired after church to even sit and eat. So, we made a bed at the table. He seemed to like that!
This was my Lewis to the rescue! We went for a little bike/scooter ride behind the church in our neighborhood. Poor Beau - the scooter kept hitting his ankle, and he ended up miserable. It was one of those outings that ended with me carrying a screaming child all the way back home, reminding myself that it's never a good idea to go anywhere without a stroller when entertaining a two year old. Lewis walked his bike and Beau's scooter all the way home on his own without even being asked. I was so grateful!
Our August treat was having Gogo visit for a few days! We love having Gogo here! We went on about 5 picnics in the space of 3 days. Took a lovely walk at the Watershed. Visited Terhune. Played at the new playground at Rosedale. And, of course, took an outing to the Bent Spoon. It felt like very special time together to love and be loved by our Gogo.
Other simple pleasures included Lewis building a dinosaur museum after reading the book our neighbors gave us. He's amazing at how engrossed he becomes with building some type of creation from one of his books!
Beau, enjoying the book after library story hour.
Lewis showing off his amazing house that we constructed out of bread, just like in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs!
