Sri Lanka - Kandy - March '15

We flew from the Maldives to Sri Lanka, met our driver, and headed straight off to Kandy. Kandy is a popular town at the southern tip of the "cultural triangle" in Sri Lanka. While we would have loved more time in the cultural triangle (lots of temples, sites, etc.), we decided just a nod to it would meet the boys' interests a bit better. 

We did really enjoy our day there! 

We woke up at this lovely lodge we had found, and spent a leisurely morning playing in the gardens, watching monkeys, and having breakfast.

We headed off for the day and stopped at a viewpoint overlooking Kandy. 

After that, we explored the Kandy Botanic Gardens. They were gorgeous. Incredible trees. We had lunch at a restaurant overlooking one of the lawns and the boys ran around with school girls visiting the gardens on a field trip.

So funny to me that in Pennington, I must have taken pictures of the boys on tractors every other week. This is the first tractor they've been on since coming to Singapore!

We went to walk around Kandy a bit in the afternoon. It was so hot, that we spent a bit of time relaxing in the Queen's hotel sipping kid cocktails!

Later we attended a cultural show with local dancing and drumming, as well as fire walking. The boys were mesmerized. 

In the evening we went to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. It was so gorgeous to see it lit up at night. We were there for their evening ceremonies. I have to say, I think it's the most stunning Buddhist temple I've ever seen! We loved it! Boys included!

Day one in Sri Lanka done! We were really happy we got in our nod to the cultural triangle. But, we were thrilled about the tea estates/ hill country and safari that were coming up!
